We take great satisfaction in being a source of delicious NUTRITIOUS FOODS, FOOD SUPPLEMENTS and NATURAL BODYCARE to help you and your family feel your best, all year round.

In a nutshell, The Natural Store consists of three vibrant shops filled with welcoming, motivated and KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF.

WE’RE A LOCAL ANTIDOTE to a world of fast and highly processed foods, faceless supermarket experiences and dubious additives that fill the products on offer.

Stock up your store cupboard with fresh organic fruit and veg, and choose from an abundance of organic, vegan and non-vegan groceries, healthy oils, baking ingredients and specialist dietary foods .

Sample organic artisan breads; find local organic eggs. In Falmouth visit the deli for an organic pasty or one of our delicious home-made quiches and salads. Explore our gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, sugar-free alternatives and take advantage of our extensive range of herbs and spices.

Treat yourself to some organic skincare; find the safest healthcare products for your children.

If you are looking to strengthen and sustain your good health then come into one of our stores in FALMOUTH, HELSTON and ST AUSTELL, and you will find friendly and knowledgeable staff who are more than happy to help you with your specific needs.

We also stock tinned organic and fair-trade beans, pulses and vegetables, healthy organic soups, healthy culinary oils, baking goods, dried beans, rice and pulses, a large variety of dairy-free milks, organic milk and dairy products, organic frozen raw sheeps’ milk, chilled vegan and non-vegan foods, frozen organic berries, vegetables, organic dairy and non dairy ice-creams, frozen organic meat and fish (in Falmouth) and much much more; you really do have to visit us to believe what we do!

Paul Johnson, the owner of the business, was inspired by the early pioneers of wholefoods stores in Cornwall, who established a number of stores in the 1970s.

In 1993, when the store in Helston was put on the market, Paul saw his chance to say goodbye to 14 years in the bus industry and pursue his interest in natural food.

The shop was soon extended to the rear of the building, and later the shop next door was taken over to provide an area for packing wholefoods, which now supplies all three stores across Cornwall.

The upstairs was then renovated into two comfortable rooms, providing a great space for complimentary practitioners.

In Falmouth, The Granary was established as a wholefoods store in the late 1970’s, and was re-invented over the years as Harvest, Four Seasons, and our personal favourite Wild Walnut. In 1996 it came up for sale and in order to maintain it as a valuable community resource, it became The Natural Store Falmouth.

The Natural Store Falmouth became so popular that first there was an extension through to the back of the building, and in 2006 the inclusion of No. 17 next door meant there was space for a kitchen to provide salads and hot food, as well as increasing the ranges of food, bodycare and supplements.

At the beginning of 2017, The Natural Store Falmouth made its biggest move yet by relocating to a bigger, more spacious shop on The Market Strand. The space holds a juice bar, Deli and Cafe aswell as the usual supplements and food.

The St. Austell store became part of the family in 2010. It had been established by sisters Michelle and Karen, who now run The Country Store in Redruth.

At The Natural Store our ethics are very important to us.

This section of our website goes into more detail about our ethics and how we keep them core to our business:

We offer a range of natural supplements, vitamins, minerals, natural remedies and homeopathy, as well as non-toxic bodycare products and environmentally friendly household goods.

We research our products and aim to provide those that are beneficial to both people and the planet. We can give dietary and supplementation advice, so that people can make informed choices about their health.

We buy local wherever possible.

Our local vegetables and eggs come from organic farmers and growers who sustainably manage their land and help to protect bio-diversity (We have seen this for ourselves, and so can you).

We believe that local produce can taste better and be more nutritious. The sooner their products arrive at the store after it is picked, the less sugars have turned to starches, and fewer nutrients have been lost. Our organic fruit and vegetables that are from abroad are transported by boat and never air freighted. We believe that this is less harmful for the environment.

We want to support the local economy, especially the people who are passionate about looking after our beautiful Cornish landscape.

In order to prevent waste going to landfill unnecessarily, we try to offer products with minimal, recycled, or compostable packaging.

We have refills for a range of washing up liquid, laundry liquid, shampoos, and hand soaps, saving resources money at the same time. We provide degradable bags for 5p, and encourage our customers to re-use bags they already have.

We also have handy, locally printed jute bags for sale in the store. Cardboard boxes can usually be supplied, free of charge.

We continue to put pressure on our supplement suppliers to reduce the packaging and materials that they send us. Many are working on it, for example Viridian will refund 25p for any of their supplement jars that are returned.

There is always room for improvement though and we welcome your feedback!

By offering fair trade products we are promoting better working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers around the world.

We also make every effort to do this throughout our own business: by being a reliable trading partner, paying our staff above the minimum wage, offering training, delivering on time to our customers, ensuring products are what they say they are, setting honest prices and giving value for money.

Where do we start?! The reasons to choose organic are too numerous and detailed to give full credit to here. We encourage you to find out more for yourself at The Soil Association website.

Very briefly, choosing organic is important because:
1. It is good for our health – organic food is free from toxic pesticides and herbicides, which put poisons into our bodies, and synthetic fertilizers, which create weak plants with low nutrition.

2. It ensures high animal welfare standards are maintained.

3. Organic production is fully sustainable and environmentally sound – it promotes biodiversity (we really need our bees) and prevents excessive toxins being leeched into the watercourse.

4. Organic farmers understand the importance of healthy soil for plants rich in minerals, for bio-diversity, and for robust ecosystems. They make sure that nutrients are replaced and that microorganisms thrive in order to perform their vital work.
We also believe in offering better alternatives to ‘not so healthy’ foods. We all need a bit of sugar from time to time. We can make sure what you get is the best product: organic, fair trade and high in minerals.

We believe in holistic health, in other words looking after the ‘whole person’, including our physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and social well-being.

We know that your needs are unique; which is why we offer a range of different dietary, remedy and supplement options. Our trained and experienced staff can help you make the right health choices for you and your family.

We support local charities by having collection tins at the tills, into which our 5p carrier bag charge goes.

There is a Food Bank basket in every store, where customers can leave food donations. Every Christmas there is a prize draw to win a luxury hamper, with all proceeds going to a nominated local charity.

We have poster boards which local people and groups can use to promote their events or services.

We regard ourselves as a family here, and you are invited to be a part of this – customers often come in and interact with people who care about similar issues and who are happy to discuss your needs. We’d love to get to know you better.

We value our customers and feel extremely lucky to have longstanding supporters from when we were first established 25 years ago.

We pride ourselves on our wide range of quality products, and will endeavour to order any natural foods or health products that cannot be found in our stores
